Built for real aussie outback travel
Whether you’re touring the country, chasing fish, towing a boat, driving through sand, snow or along the beach, or heading to the most remote corners of Australia, the Tailgate Camper is designed with the versatility to go anywhere you dare to venture.
Tailgate
Tailgate Campers started with one simple goal: build a quality camper that was lightweight, practical, comfortable, and easy to use.
After decades of camping and four-wheel driving across Australia, Noel and Irene designed a setup that solved the frustrations they experienced themselves — large footprint, difficult setup, wasted space, weight issues, and complicated systems with limited options .
That same philosophy still drives every camper we build today.

about
We fitted the lightweight aluminium slide-on to our ute and took it straight out past the backroads—set up was quick and it never felt flimsy. Even with all the camping gear and water, the whole setup is under 400kg and still feels solid thanks to the welded tubular frame and proper fittings.

I tow a boat on weekends and needed something that could handle the extra load without turning the truck into a brick. This slide-on is fully built in Australia and you can tell—strong, durable, and built for outback conditions. The best part is the feeling that we can camp anywhere, anytime, without overthinking it.

We bought it for a touring trip with our horsefloat and it did exactly what we hoped. The aluminium build stayed reliable over rough roads, and the strength didn’t come with a heavy weight—less than 400kg but still confident when everything’s secured. Honestly, it’s the sort of setup you can load up in a moment’s notice and just go.
